Vienna City Guide, Accommodations, Sightseeing Tours, Information

If you want culture, arts and a good life, this is the place to be. The capital of Austria was home to Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Mahler and Bruckner. Then at the tail end of the 19th century an artistic revolution swept through the city thanks to the likes of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos.

Vienna, Austria
Vienna is a rare European city in that it has managed to preserve its historic charm without losing its dynamic grasp on modern life. Dinner at Schonbrunn Palace & A Concert

What better introduction to Vienna than to have a three-course dinner at this 1,441-room Baroque masterpiece followed by a classical concert. Schonbrunn Palace is one of the most significant monuments in Austria and is a world heritage site. Dine in style and then sit in for the concert at the Orangerie Schonbrunn.
The 18-member orchestra with conductor, two opera singers and a pair of ballet dancers will enthral you with Mozart and Strauss. If you would like to explore Schonbrunn Palace further, come back the next day and join one of the many guided tours.

Danube Cruise

A leisurely cruise along the Danube is a great way to take in the sights of Vienna. Along the way, you will be able to visit Hundertwasser. The work of self-styled “eco-architect” Friedensreich Hundertwasser, this 50-unit apartment complex has a facade like a gigantic black-and-white game board with scattered splotches of red, yellow, and blue and has trees sticking out at 45º angles. It is a strange sight in a city filled with Baroque buildings.
Further north, you will see Uno City, home to the UN headquarters and what seems to be a city within a city. Just next to that is the 828-ft Danube Tower with two rotating cafe-restaurants and a viewing deck.

Vienna Woods

On the outskirts of Vienna, the foothills of Vienna Woods reach into the city limits. This is an important recreational area and from Cobenzl, the northern Vienna Woods, you get a marvellous view of the city. The area is also known for its vineyards. Grinzing, a little wine growing village here, is worth a visit.
