Russia is the largest country in the world. To explore the vastness
of this land, one has to choose from among the wealth of historical monuments,
medieval cities and the great amount of art the city offers.
Moscow boasts the Kremlin that holds both the old cathedrals which
has seen a long line of tsars being crowned inside its great hall. Be amazed at
the silver finery, gilded carriages, Faberge eggs and other treasured items
inside! If your time allows it, enjoy a sampling of the city’s world-famous
ballet.
St. Petersburg is another destination filled with visual delights.
From glittering palaces to impressive museums, the city is awashed in royal
splendour.
More historic outings can be made to the medieval towns forming the Golden Ring.
An easy daytrip from Moscow is Sergiev Posad. Its monastery is the major draw
for many tourists who are interested to see this bastion of the Orthodox church.
Vladimir and
Suzdal are also included in this circle of cities offering that
medieval charm. The town of Novgorod has its origins tracing back to the time
when marauders raided the country in the 12th century. Its northern position
enabled it to safeguard the city from such raids.
Down south, the cities of
Volgograd and
Rostov-on-Don figured prominently during the wars waged in the Black
Sea. The most popular city on this side however is
Sochi, due to its motley of resorts along the coast. |
