Saudi Arabia Travel
Saudi Arabia is a Middle Eastern country in Asia that occupies most of the
Arabian peninsula and has both Persian Gulf and Red Sea coast lines. Its
surrounding countries are Jordan to the northwest, Iraq to the northeast, Kuwait
and Qatar to the east, United Arab Emirates to the south east, Oman and Yemen to
the south.
Saudi Arabia contains the holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina, to which
all able-bodied Muslims are required to make a pilgrimage at least once if
possible (Hajj).
Makkah (Mecca) - Makkah is an Islamic Holy city in Saudi Arabia. Each year approximately eight million visitors travel to Saudi Arabia, of which half are on religious travel. The height of the travel season at Makkah takes place during the annual Hajj pilgrimage and visitors during the Holy month of Ramadan when the Holy city welcomes over two million pilgrims for the Hajj alone. Makkah is home to Al Masjid al Haram (also known as the Grand Mosque) which houses the Kaaba, the shrine which Muslims turn towards while offering daily prayers and considered to be the Holiest site in Islam. In addition to the Hajj, Muslims are encouraged to travel to Makkah on what is commonly known as a "lesser pilgrimage" or Umrah.

Riyadh - Known by local wags as the Dead Center of the Kingdom, Riyadh is the most straight-laced of the Kingdom's big cities. With most forms of entertainment banned, few sights of interest and a brutal climate, Riyadh is a business-only destination if there ever was one.
Riyadh is a great city for bargain hunters and shopping aficionados as the city is bursting with souks that sell everything from souvenirs, antiques and carpets to jewellery and clothing.
